Mark Griffin - Omen Audio
Find out about Omen Audio recording studio and how the founder engineer Mark Griffin uses the NV-01 on pretty much any instrument!
Mark has been a musician from an early age. However, it was after the first few times of going into various recording studios to make band demos that he was hooked on the audio possibilities. Starting out on 4-track cassette and Atari’s, progressing to some Reel to Reel experience before entering the DAW world where he embraced the old analogue and began utilizing the modern digital world to capture the best results possible.
Mark has had some impressive home setups and studios over the years as well as working in large commercial studios. It was 15 years ago that Mark started recording locally as “Omen Audio”. As Mark puts it; “the thought process behind Omen Audio is being flexible and fully mobile to record anything from a multi-track live gig to a to a comfortable rehearsal hall or from the customers home environment to a commercial studio. “It is still all about the song and performance of the artist though. Being flexible is the most important part of recording and it’s about capturing that experience with using choice microphones, analogue preamps and valves to get the best sound on the way to the DAW”.
Because of the strong, vibrant music scene in the South of the UK, Mark has been fortunate enough to record and be involved with a wide and varied genre of music from big bands, folk ensembles, choirs, musicals to solo work and heavy rock bands. Mark has also done some extensive work in television and media since launching Omen Audio.

“I heard some raw vocal recordings and comparisons of the NOVE NV01 mic and thought it
sounded pretty impressive. However, it was when I actually got to use the mic on several of
my sessions that I really discovered that it completely surpassed my expectations.
“The first time I used an NV-01 mic I put it next to a Neumann U87 to see how it would
perform. Had I not known which channel was for the NV-01 I honestly would not have been
able to tell which mic was which. As it happens the Vintage Neumann developed a fault
whilst tracking and the NOVE NV-01 saved the vocal take and the entire session from being
abandoned. I really do not think I could give a better testimony than that!
“I have used it on several more sessions since then and it seems like there is nothing that it
cannot handle or capture the sound of. I am so impressed with what the NOVE team have
achieved that I cannot wait to see what they make next.”
